The garden club at Devonshire Hall was set up as a response from the
residents, requesting help to look after the gardens adjacent to their
block of flats.
The flats and gardens are in an "L" shape with an internal garden area
that had been constructed several years previously. The gardens were now
very overgrown and the shrubs and created hiding places for potential
muggers.
The residents were unable to mobilise themselves into a co-ordinated
action group. They were also limited in the knowledge in dealing with
and safely removing the "used" needles that had been dumped in the undergrowth.
